Saving money on HD items

If you are planning to buy an HD-TV or a Blu-ray player during this holiday shopping season, here are some tips to save you money.

Lots of electronic stores are ready to deal, so check the Web for prices on the stuff you want to buy before you head to the store. Then show up and see if they match it or make you a better deal, and don't be afraid to haggle.

"A lot of people are willing to come down. The sticker price for me is just the starting price," said Jason Henley from Signature Audio and Video of Bellevue.

f you are looking to save some money with an HD-TV purchase, try buying one with less resolution.

The big time HD sets have 1080 pixel resolution or 1080p, but you can save hundreds by purchasing one with 720 pixels instead. Most people can't tell the difference.

Jason also says to get a Blu-ray player, even though a Blu-ray performs best with 1080p, it will still make your 720p TV look great.

"I don't have a 1080p TV at home and my Blu-ray has done a complete makeover on my system," he said.

If you decide to go 1080p, some experts say to stay away from Blu-ray altogether and wait for Internet-based movie systems such as VUDU.

With VUDU you can order 1080p movies on the Web and they are streamed to your set.

And don't buy just from anyone. Make sure you are using an authorized dealer.

"There's nothing worse than spending a few thousand dollars and come to find out they can't warranty it. You want a little bit of support," said Jason.
